Campaigning for President

Homework that we turned in this week...
  1. Rank the Top 10 Issues Facing the Next President - what is each about and why did you place it where you did?
  2. 1/2 page - Would you ever consider running president? Why or why not?
The last 3 days we have been talking about campaigns for the presidency. The kids had a chance to create campaign posters using information from a variety of Junior Scholastic articles - showing what each candidate thinks about different topics.

Today the kids presented their posters in class and took notes about topics and what each candidate believes about the topics. You can view these notes on the student wiki.

We also talked about campaigns, both positive and negative, and how campaigns use both. The 4 basic approaches to any campaign includes...
  • Virtue Approach - "I am the best person for the job"
  • Poison Approach - "That person is terrible for America"
  • Plain Folk Approach - "I'm just like you"
  • Testimonial Approach - "Hey, listen to this famous person tell you why I should win"
Retakes for those that were not successful on the MN and Culture Test will be Monday and Tuesday during class.
