Introduction to U.S./Geography (Mon-Tues)

This week we'll be starting to look at our new unit - the United States and Canada. To begin with, we'll be studying the physical geography of both nations. These first 2 days we'll be working mapping some of the key physical features of both of these regions...
  • Pacific Ocean
  • Great Plains
  • Rocky Mountains
  • Canadian Shield
  • Hudson Bay
  • Appalachian Mountains
  • Ozark Plateau
  • Great Basin
  • Great Lakes (5)
  • Gulf of St. Lawrence
  • Gulf of Mexico
  • Coastal Plain
  • Atlantic Ocean
  • Mackenzie Mountains
  • Mt. McKinley
  • Gulf of Alaska
  • Bering Sea
  • Bering Strait
  • Mississippi River
  • Grand Canyon
  • Great Salt Lake

We'll also be working to describe the various physical feature regions of both the U.S. and Canada. Click here to download the Graphic Organizer for these features. We'll be doing most of this work in class with the textbooks (pages 90 and 116).
Finally, students will be taking the organizer and creating a travel plan throughout both the U.S. and Canada - describing what you might see as you visit these locations. In order to earn the grade of your choice, you should do the following...
  • A Grade - 5 locations from EACH nation (10 total)
  • B Grade - 4 locations from EACH nation (8 total)
  • C Grade - 3 locations from EACH nation (6 total)
This all will be due Thursday/Friday (Nov. 13/14) at the end of class.
