Let's Get Ready to Rumble (Mon-Fri)

Welcome Back to 2009!!!

This week we'll be preparing for our last project for the U.S./Canada unit. We are preparing for "panel presentations" and class debates/discussions for six different topics related to the U.S.
Groups of students are going through readings for their topic and preparing to present to the class about their topic, allowing the class to then discuss with each other before they vote. The topics we are looking at include...

• Education (school vouchers and standardized testing)
• War in Iraq (withdrawal of troops, free speech and protesters, and torture)
• Minimum Wage (should it be removed?)
• Health Care (universal or not?)
• Immigration (should more immigrants be allowed into the U.S.?)
• Oil and ANWR (drilling for oil in Alaska?)

Here is our schedule for this week...

• Monday/Tuesday - Go through the articles and pull out information
• Wednesday/Thursday - Outline main arguments for panel presentations
• Friday - Wrap up and practice

We will be participating in class discussions starting next Monday (Jan. 12) lasting throughout the week.
